New Shoes

They were a black and white pair of shoes, the first pair I had ever got her. I wasn’t sure whether I’d got the right size… what if the shoes were too big for her feet? Only one way to find out!

I knew she wouldn’t be able to do this on her own, so I put her socks on for her. Made sure I had them on the right way. Her feet slipped into the shoes relatively easily. I could see the happiness on her face as I tightened the laces. It took me a while to do them up, because I wasn’t used to doing up someone else’s laces. She laughed with delight. I wondered why.

“Do you remember when you were little, and I had to do up your laces for you?” said my mother.
